Tribute From Emma

Some words from Emma

I spent a lot of time with Nannie in recent years. We did sort outs and decluttering, chatting over meals and afternoon tea breaks, and I helped with shopping and housework. And she was helping me too.

She was so generous, and kind, and full of witty remarks to make me laugh. She listened to my troubles, looked out for my well-being, encouraged me to rest, and loved me unconditionally, even when I was having a bad day.

We would talk about the war, and what it was like back when our current standards of modern life didn’t exist or when they were introduced as new inventions.

She’d tell me what was happening in the news, and Jane as the middle generation would try not to laugh as Nannie and I delicately navigated different perspectives, learning from each other in the process.

And after we put the world to rights, we’d chat about our love of cats, look at old photos and share news and stories from loved ones past and present.

She shared many brilliant insights and anecdotes from her amazing 96 years of life, and it was truly an honour to get to know her. I will miss our chats, our letter writing, and our 3 generation Tuesdays. She was my Nan, my pen pal, my confidant, and my friend.
